Personal Statement
I chose to enlist in the Marine Corps Reserves at 17 yrs. old before my senior year of wrestling, and with that decision opted not to wrestle senior year. I believed that I needed to focus on everything Marine Corps. I left for boot camp at MCRD San Diego June 5th 2017, right after graduation. Since that time I have learned how much I miss the training, the team bonding, and the push to be better as an athlete. Now that I have completed boot camp September 2017 and Infantry Assault Marine training this December 2017, I will again start looking at colleges with a wrestling program. I am primarily looking to be within a 2-3 hour radius of my reserve unit in Des Moines, IA, but would consider anywhere that has a Marine Corp infantry reserve unit within a few hundred miles. I realize I will not be the usual college student or the wrestler fresh off of a high school team. I can however promise that I have a great deal of discipline, that I have trained hard, and that I have been pushed to physical limits unimaginable. Due to my continued love of physical training and conditioning, chances are you will find me in the gym lifting weights, hiking, biking, boxing, or participating in some form of physical activity in my free time. I admit I lost a lot of mat time since my last match at State Duals Junior year, but I will give it my all if I have the opportunity to walk out on that mat once again.
