Personal Statement

Success. It has many meanings but what does it mean to you? If success to you is: getting better each day, giving everything you have at any given moment, being able to look someone in the eye and tell them you gave everything you had, and not settling for anything other then your best; then we are on the same page. I may not be the best but I am successful (In my personal opinion.) What drives my success? What fuels my everlasting need to get better? What makes me tick? The fact that people tell me that I can't do something. There is nothing quite like proving people wrong, or even seeing the look of astonishment that they possess as soon as you exceed their expectations and prove them wrong. What I've learned is there are always people waiting to put you down and give you countless reasons why you will fail and why you will not succeed. What I've also learned is that you cannot be afraid of failure. Whenever you decide to do something there is always a chance of failure and it's what you do after you fail that separates the best from the rest. When I become passionate about something or get an idea in my head I tend to become relentless. I'm willing to fail as many times as it takes before I accomplish something. I have a very competitive spirit and while I like winning, I hate losing even more. A personal goal of mine is everyday I try to outwork everyone or win the day. What I love about this is there is always someone out there working hard. Everyday anytime of day every second every hour there is someone in this world working, pushing, striving to be better than everyone so my quest is an everlasting one.

Ever since I was a little kid. Football was my life, I was addicted to the sport. I lived, breathed, talked, and played football. My biggest dream in life was to play college football for the university of Texas at Austin, and go pro for the Dallas Cowboys. That is honestly what I thought I was going to do. My secondary dream was to be a sports announcer or coach. I was always learning new things about offensive/defensive schemes, players and their stats, training and practicing, and watching the sport that I loved so much. Then I discovered Wrestling and it has made a huge impact on my life. I discovered Wrestling Sophomore year in High school and that's the year I also turned my life around. I slacked off Freshman year which is why my GPA is lower then it should be. I wasn't really dedicated to anything I didn't know what  I wanted to do with my life. It was when I realized my football dream was unrealistic. Anyways Sophomore year was a big turn around for me. I was ineligible for football but I still stayed on the team and worked as hard as I could. I did everything that I could. Then wrestling season was about to start and I decided that I wanted to try wrestling. It has been one of the best decisions I have made. Ever since then my grades have gone up (sophomore year I had all A's and B's with one C each semester), My work ethic has gone up (quite a bit), I got involved with people and into every extracurricular activity and after school event I had time for, I even won Spartan of the month (a school award we have where every month a teacher(s) elect one person they think has shown the most hard work, achievement, biggest turnaround/ improvement, etc.) and the list goes on and on. The start of my sophomore year I was 193lbs, after football I was 180lbs. At the end of the wrestling season I was 148. My proudest achievement is lettering in wrestling, it was the first year I've ever wrestled. And also placing 5th place at regionals at 170lbs weight class weighing only 150 I also decided to run track. I ran distance, threw shot put and discus and pole vaulted. My first mile I ran was a 6:04 my first two mile was a 13:23. At the end of track I ran a 5:23 mile and a 12:00 two mile. Junior year I tried taking AP classes and that worked well for awhile and I enjoyed it, but I started missing a lot of school, due to sports trips, doctors visits, personal occurrences so I had to switch out of the AP class and a couple of my other grades suffered due to all the effort I put in the AP class. Junior year is the first time I was able to finish out my football season I ended up becoming a varsity starting Tight End and playing Defensive End. I ended up wrestling 182's 170's and 160's. I placed 5th at regionals at 160's and went with the team to state as an alternate. In track I ran distance at the beginning of the year and ran a 5:15 mile and a 11:45 two mile but I switched to sprinting. I also threw shot put and discus, and pole vaulted. This year will be my third year ever wrestling, and final year wrestling in High school. In football I have played Tight End, Fullback, Guard, Nose Guard, And outside linebacker. I enlisted in the United States Marines and scored a 91 on the practice ASVAB and got a 79 on the actual ASVAB (I am going to retake it). I applied for the NROTC scholarship. I am currently able to do 13 pull ups, 72 sit ups, and I ran a 9:54 on my mile and a half and a 21:21 on my three mile. I have an overall score of 225/300 and achieved first class stats for he Marine testing. My personal goal for the Marines is to get the Superman award which is a perfect score on all of the physical tests.
