Personal Statement

Hello my name is Sterling Roseberry, I am currently ranked 7th in OH. 15/16 season, a three time varsity letter winner in wrestling and All American. I wrestled the off season putting my wins for the total 14/15 season to 92/25. I finished my JR year 33-10 as a state alternate, placing 1st in my sectionals and 5th at districts which left me ranked 27th @ 220. My sophomore year I was sectional runner up and I was ranked 37th in the state. The characteristics that separates me from average wrestlers are my strong leadership skills and work ethic. I have taken a leading role on my wrestling team since my freshman year and have also helped lead us to some very key victories. I've worked in my fathers business for a long time helping where and when I can, this has taught me to see what a good work-ethic can do to reach my goals. I've always been one to take a challenge and work as hard as possible. I am driven to reach the next level and wrestling at the collegiate level is my primary goal along with an education at a great college. Thank you for looking at my profile.

First match for club 2015 OHWAY States 1st place state title. Wrestled at AAU Junior Olympics Duals in Virginia Beach and received an individual 3rd place Bronze Metal award in the 220lb class. Finished over all 11-2. Recieving All American Status

Sterling came out strong on day 1 with 2 pinns and it led him into the next days semi-finals. Sterling took a loss to 2nd ranked in the state which sent him to wrestle 1 more time as the go-to-match. He beat a very tough kid (9th in state) and that brought him to wrestling for 3rd place. The match was extremely exciting, to say the least. Sterling stayed in control leading the whole match till the final period he threw the kid to his back and the kid never recovered ending it with Sterling winning 3rd to take him into the State Tournament ranked 8th in the state.

Sterling won 1st place at the Marysville sectionals allowing him to move on to districts at Hilliard Darby this Friday and Saturday.

I wrestled HVWT weighing in at 227. Pinned first three apponent's then minored in the semi's and finishing by defeating the 1st seed wrestler who was ranked 8th in the state D3 8-4 to take 1st place. He didn't score one offensive point only scored by me kicking him to take him down over and over. Great week for me beating the 8th ranked D1 wrestler in our team dual match then getting to wrestle 5 more matches on Saturday and defeating another 8th ranked wrestler.

GMVWA Holiday Tournament

I wrestled HVWT weighing in at 228 and finishing 3rd with 3 pins and defeating more than a few big heavy-weights, sadly the only loss was to the 2nd ranked D1 HVWT wrestle in Ohio. This was a great tournament which I have wrestled at for the 4th year and went from, 2& out to 3rd place.

Sterling was ranked Central district 1st D1, having to wrestle the 1st D2 seed ranked 7th in the state. 3 1min periods no overtime. 1st period no score, 2nd period Sterling chose down & no score, 3rd period Sterling started up giving his opponent 1 for escape, great scramble apponent called for stalling, 7 seconds left and Sterling hit a double over and puts the other kid to his back. Ending in 5-1.

Only a few Bigs at this tournament so I bumped up to heavy weight and wrestled twice winning both decisively. 1st match pin, second match for first place against Team Ohio's HVYT I won 9-0 hitting a mean duck-under side attack avoiding his throws.

19 kids in my bracket. This tournament was considerably more difficult with higher ranked wrestlers (I defeated the 2nd in states in KY). My performance was strong going 4-1 on the day to place 2nd losing 1-0 in the finals. I finished 3rd in The Steubenville Super 32 qualifier the week before.

Sterling wrestled 220lb for Team Ohio Grey, Although the team took 2nd in bracket 2. Sterling had an exceptional week; wrestling to a finish of 11-2 which placed him in the individual challenge for a metal and resulted in him getting 3rd place earning a Bronze Medal coming with All American status. He had 3 pins, 5 tech falls, leaving only 1 match to decision. Great week for Sterling Roseberry All American.

I'll be wrestling 220# for the Average Joe's wrestling club. Another great tournament and competition. I went 4 & 1 on the day only loosing by 1 point to a tough match. The victories were solid as I was working on single leg and double leg take-downs to better myself and my stand-up wrestling. The Team took second at the tournament and is getting better each tournament.

Sterling will be wrestling 220# for , The Average Joe's team. Super tuff competition this past weekend, I went 5 & 1 on the day. It was difficult being pinned for the first time in 2 years but it was an eye opener for me and I know what I need to work on to get better. The BWC staff and coaches were fantastic and very supportive, thank you very much, great tournament.

I'll be wrestling with Team DWC at 220# . Had a great day on the mat. Went 5 & 1 against some strong competition. Had some very close matches and only loss was in overtime after I shot, we scrambled like 122 pounders for a few seconds, and the call went his way, it was a Great match. I learned quite a bit this past weekend, very happy with the wins; 3 pins, 1 major and 1 minor along with only giving up 1 takedown all day in the final match in overtime.

Sterling won 1st place to capture the state title. He pinned two and the third match the other kid defaulted on a throw by Sterling.

Sterling finished 5th, a state alternate, in Districts. After pinning his first opponent he won his second match 14-10 leading him to the semi-finals and losing a close match, 7-5, to the number 2 seed kid in the tournament. He then lost his 4th match in the last few seconds breaking a 7-7 tie and sending him to wrestle for 5th and 6th place.Sterling then wrestled the 20th rank kid in the state, defeating him to solidify him as the state alternate.
