Personal Statement
MY CURRENT RECORD AS WE GO INTO SECTIONALS IS: 39-5 ~ 34 PINS 3 BY MAJORS, 2 BY POINTS. EACH LOSS WAS BY 1 POINT AND IN OT.
There is no other sport like wrestling in the world, and once I stepped on the mat the first time I knew that. I am totally committed to this sport for many reasons. Wrestling is one person against another, and in order to win, you have to have strength, skills, smarts. It teaches discipline, determination, and drive. I love the strategies involved with winning. I love being part of team but knowing once I am on the mat I am only dependent upon what I have trained for, the endless hours on a mat or in a weight room working. I am a wrestler who wants to compete in the college arena and someday the Olympics.
In my quest to become a better wrestler I have set goals for myself. I began lifting and training at WESTSIDE BARBELL about a year ago. I have been taught great techniques as far as lifting goes and each week try to improve upon my lifts and strength training. I hit a personal PR in my bench (I was at a plateau) I had a 15 lb increase. My current lifts are as follows:
* 605 lb Sumo dead lift.
* 505 lb Squat.
*495 lb Zercher.
Each of these lifting techniques has given me the strength to lift and throw many of my opponents (many of which weigh anywhere from 20-40 pounds more than myself). I am gaining muscle and strength weekly in my training at WESTSIDE BARBELL. I train with my club, my team & various coaches each week. There isn't a day where my life doesn't have wrestling involved. I've attended numerous camps and wrestled in as many tournaments and open mats as possible. I wrestled representing Team OHIO in Oklahoma Duals and Junior Olympics. I also attended FILAS Cadet Nationals and was runner up in freestyle. This qualified me for the Cadet World team but sadly there wasn’t a 120 K weight class. I did however go and help with the Cadet team before their departure to Serbia to help prepare their 100 K wrestler. I thoroughly enjoyed that experience. I also qualify for RTC here at Ohio State University.
Wrestling is molding me into something my mom can be proud of. I am a better young man, student, son and friend because of this amazing sport. I also do this to see the joy on my mom’s face. She is currently battling terminal cancer. I strive to win and be successful in school, on and off the mat and in life…so she can see all the greatness she has imparted in me. She has instilled in me character, determination, commitment and drive. Her diagnosis says that she may not be able to see me fulfill the goals of my future. She is told that she may not see me graduate from high school. My mom always jokes around and says, “It ain’t over tilI got it and I strive to do that every day. I am a good student, my teachers really enjoy me and I them. I enjoy school and when I find something I like I jump in feet first and go full bore. I play the Double Bass in Select Chamber Orchestra and music is very much a part of my life. I tend to succeed and enjoy math, science and history. I want to continue my education and search for a school where I can fit in, get a degree, continue wrestling and grow. I am a quiet guy but love to help out and try to inspire those around me to be the best that they can be. You can thank my mom for that!
