Personal Statement
I am very thankful that I am surrounded by friends and family who have had a tremendous impact on my life. I have tried several sports over the years, but wrestling has always been my passion. I love the challenge of the sport! I love putting in the hard work and seeing the benefits of those efforts! I appreciate both the wins and losses because those experiences have made me who I am today.
Last season, I broke my collar bone in a match. It was extremely disappointing because it was the week before our Sectional Tournament. I didn't want my season to end! I even tried to finish my match with the bone broken and overlapping because I knew the team was counting on me. The hardest part for me was that I knew I would not be able to wrestle for weeks. After recovering and rehabbing the injury, I came back and had a great summer of wrestling! I won a few tournaments and placed in many others. I won a Junior Olympic Qualifier and got to represent Team Ohio in the Junior Olympics at Virginia Beach. I went 12-4 in the event and ended up placing 5th. It was a great experience!
I love this sport! I am expecting to do well this season and have a goal of placing at the state tournament. I hope to wrestle at the collegiate level. I am excited about the opportunity and look forward to being able to learn new techniques to add to my arsenal. I also enjoying helping my teammates learn new skills. I am currently staying after practice to help the underclassmen heavyweights work on new skills. I have learned a tremendous amount in my years as a wrestler that I will carry with my throughout my life. I have learned to set goals, overcome adversity, and continually strive to improve. I looking forward to speaking with you about the opportunities available at your school.
Respectfully,
Isaiah Grier
