Personal Statement
In this day and age, characteristics like respect, strength, family, discipline, and accountability are diminishing. Wrestling isn’t only a great sport to learn for self-defense, confidence, and physical fitness; it instills these characteristics in the people who accept the challenge wrestling provides.
Respect is a standard for wrestlers. You must learn to be respectful of others and their opinions. Discipline is paramount to success, on and off the mat. Learning to meet a deadline and knowing that standards and qualifications may be the only thing that stands between a person and their next victory. Accountability to yourself and your team builds self-confidence. Having the strength to push, test, preserve, and create yourself builds the foundation for your future success. Lastly, wrestling creates a family! It is a bond that is created between teammates when they sweat and bleed together. Battling each other to make themselves better every day.
The effort and work ethic of a wrestler is unrivaled and no doubt exists that these principles will carry over into the rest of their lives. There is truly something unique about wrestling that sets it apart from all other sports. Wrestling isn’t something that you do, it is something you become. Wrestling has helped me become a good student, a good athlete and a good person. I am working to get my GPA back above 3.5 and am preparing for a future in either Chiropractic medicine or Engineering, with some Entrepreneurial aspirations as well. I am setting a goal to place in the top 3 at the state wrestling tournament in 2020, and I am working every day to make that goal come true.
