Coaches,
I am no longer wrestling. I will be entering a college of my choice, not for wrestling.
Thanks for the attention-
When I started wrestling 8 years ago, my goal was to be a varsity wrestler in high school. It wasn’t easy. I was the lightest weight and the smallest kid. I had to work out all spring and summer to build muscle and get into shape. I work just as hard in practice as I do in a match. Over the years, coaches and clinicians have picked me out and used me as an example in front upperclassmen. I had to earn the upperclassmen’s respect. I started varsity as freshman last year. Not only did I start as a varsity wrestler, but I made it to Districts! That was one major goal accomplished for me!
I have learned discipline from wrestling. I continue to make honor roll while on varsity and maintaining weight and going to a trainer. I received the Suburban One Scholar Athlete award last year as well as making All League Honorable Mention for the season.
Being on SEPA’s (Club) National Dual team and participating in the NHCSA duals tournament in Virginia Beach has given me confidence and I have gained experience against talented people. I realized there is always room for improvement and always someone who is trying just as hard as you.
My next big goal is to wrestle in college. I also want to go to college to get good education for the future. The education is just as important as wrestling. I like engineering because like wrestling; it’s figuring out the next move and how to do things. It can be challenging but in the end it’s rewarding. Even when it doesn’t work out- you learn something.
I have learned that the big picture of wrestling is to never give up. With 20 seconds left and you are down by points, you might as well try something and go for it rather than give up. You never know what’s going to happen. And whatever you do….don’t get pinned. My coaches have always told me that wrestling is preparation for life.
