Personal Statement

Hello, my name is Juan Cortez Castellanos but I go by Cortez

I just finished my senior year at The Colony HS in The Colony, Texas. Prior to high school, I had never wrestled in organized wrestling, and I just finished my high school career as, the winningest wrestler in school history with over 170 wins. I have placed at the Texas state finals two years in a row, my junior (5th) and senior (6th) years respectively.

A little about my high school career; My freshman year, never wrestling in organized wrestling I recorded a 29-10 record, finishing as an alternate for the District tournament.  My sophomore year, I was 35-5 when a late season knee injury kept me from entering the post season. My junior year I recorded a 52-2 record, 1st in the district and 1st in the regional tournaments, finishing 5th at the state tournament at 106lbs.  I just concluded my senior year, I was 55-11, 2nd at districts, and 4th at regionals. I finished my career with a 6th place finish at the state tournament at 113lbs.

Some of my wrestling accomplishments include: Most wins in school history, wrestler of the year 2x, member of 50 win club x2, best new wrestler as a freshman to name a few.

I am looking to take my wrestling to a new level in college, I plan on wrestling at 125lbs in college. I am an extremely hard worker, and not afraid to put in work to be successful. Not only do I work hard on the mat, I work hard in the classroom as well. I have maintained a 3.75 GPA for most of my high school time. I am looking to study music and kinesiology in college.

Some of my other sports accomplishments are; 2x Teen Jiu Jitsu world champion, amateur teen boxing champion and undefeated in Muay Thai kick boxing.

Thank you for reviewing my profile, it is truly an honor to be acknowledged and hopefully considered to be a part of your program.
