Wrestling has been a part of my life since I started middle school. When I first moved to Virginia, my parents wanted me to start wrestling so I would stay in shape during the winter and I am so thankful that they wanted me to wrestle. Since then I have simply fell in love with the sport and I couldn't imagine doing anything else. When I moved on into high school I was able to grasp how great this sport really is; it has made me a better man because I have become more dedicated and self disciplined, and mentally tough. Not only that, but it has taught me the value of hard work and how far that can take someone in life. As a wrestler I try to always beat myself everyday in the wrestling room at practice, I know that really the only one I am up against is myself and my goal is to get better each time I step on the mat. As a leader I try to lead by example; I may not be the loudest, but I will work the hardest and always do my best to do it the right way. I really enjoy a room that has people that will push me to be the best I can be, day in and day out, and that's what I am looking for in the college for me.
My parents have instilled in me since I was a little kid that school is extremely vital to my success when I grow up, and I have tried my utmost to make them proud academically. Wrestling, I feel, has carried into my school life as well; I am always on top of my academic work and work hard in the classroom as well, so I will have a better opportunity to succeed in life. I don't slack off in the classroom and when I arrive home after practice, the first thing I do is finish my homework. I believe it's school first and then sports. Though they are both extremely dear to me, I know I cannot wrestle forever and need to have a plan to be able to live out the rest of my life comfortably. My goal as a student is to work hard so I will be able to pursue whatever field I choose in college and have the ability to choose from a wide variety of schools. I'm working hard now to be able to enter the profession I want and live the way I want to later on in life.
Outside of wrestling and school I have many other interests in my life. Every summer since I was 5 I have gone to a Catholic summer camp. While there I have met friends that I still get to see every year and role models that have taught me the value of life. While there as a camper I got to enjoy the many activities they provided including: archery, horseback riding, and tennis, among other things. By far my favorite aspect of the camp is the backpacking trails we get to go on; on these trails we hike in the West Virginian Blue Ridge Mountains for around 3 days and it allows me to become closer to nature. I love backpacking so much and I am lucky enough to be able to go with my father during breaks in my school year, including spring break. This past summer I went as a junior counselor. Although I had to clean the kitchen after meals and the bathrooms during the day, I still enjoyed every moment because I was able to see the little kids, that used to be me, having the greatest week of their lives. Aside from this camp I try to stay active in my community; I volunteered at SERVE to helping the underprivileged obtain groceries. Furthermore, I have also volunteered at food drives. My family and friends are also an important part of my life and I try my best to incorporate them into my busy schedule. Especially my family, they have always been there for me and I want to give back to them as much as I can, which for now is my time to spend with them. At times it may become difficult to balance all these things in my life, but my family always stands behind me and pushes me to be the very best I can be and for that I am truly grateful.
