What the Coaches are Saying...
Sep 11, 2018

“I am very excited to introduce NCAA Division III Men’s Ice Hockey at Chatham University to the great city of Pittsburgh. It is a sports-fan haven and one only had to turn on the television screen this past spring to view the sea of yellow as the Penguins won the Stanley Cup. Pittsburgh has become a desirable location for college students (roughly 100,000 in total) and its city neighborhoods are attracting more and more young professionals. There are a number of great internships available locally and networking opportunities abound. It is a walkable city, and Chatham students have free access to all city transportation with their student ID card. Residents are approachable and friendly. Student-athletes when not in-season will have access to student discounts to Penguins’ games, terrific local eateries, and hiking in the stunning Alleghenies nearby. Chatham University has a beautiful main campus located in the Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh. There are also satellite campuses at Chatham Eastside (Bakery Square neighborhood) and Eden Hall Campus (Richland Township, PA) home of Chatham’s renowned program in sustainability. The university offers over forty academic programs including several business offerings, biochemistry, communication, criminology, exercise science, nursing, and the visual arts. If interested in graduate school, there is the integrated degree program where you earn your spot for a graduate degree on day one. This includes Chatham’s many offerings in health sciences such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, and physician assistant programs. The IDP also includes access to a Master of Business Administration, Master of Interior Architecture, and Master of Sustainability. For those interested in law school, check out the 3+3 program with Duquesne University Law School and Stetson University College of Law. With a 10:1 Student-Faculty ratio, you’ll know you will be receiving a high quality education that is focused on your needs in state of the art facilities. Chatham University offers competitive scholarships to students who qualify for academic merit-based awards. Our Men’s Ice Hockey program will be recruiting throughout the 2016-2017 academic calendar year. We will enter into a very competitive NCAA Division III ice hockey conference in 2017-2018. The United Collegiate Hockey Conference will include Chatham, Lebanon Valley, Stevenson, King's, Nazareth, Hobart, Elmira, Utica, Neumann, and Manhattanville. I would like to recruit a smaller roster for the initial year, and maintain loyalty to the initial group of student-athletes as we build the foundation of our program. We want a family environment where players compete with each other like brothers, are glad when the other succeeds, and want to earn their opportunity individually on the ice through their own internal motivation. We will focus on in-house development of players and balance out our class sizes as we progress through a five-year plan. Our players will have grit, and we will play fast and physical with everyone involved in the offense. We will attract student-athletes who are not only competitive on the ice, but in the classroom and community. I am very glad to be starting the Men’s Hockey program at Chatham University. We have an incredible past, and an even more exciting future. I hope that student-athletes interested in building a foundation and a legacy will continue to stay in contact by filling out the questionnaire. We will become a premier destination for those looking to continue playing at the NCAA Division III level. Sincerely, Michael Callan ChathamUNIVERSITY Head Men’s Ice Hockey Coach Dept. of Athletics – Student Affairs Woodland Road, Pittsburgh PA 15232 412/365-1763 (campus) 419/349-0737 (mobile) m.callan@chatham.edu www.GoChathamCougars.com”
