What the Coaches are Saying...
Sep 11, 2018

“Tim Cary Named Head Men's And Women's Cross Country/Track And Field Coach BELLEVILLE, Ill.—The Lindenwood University-Belleville Athletics Department is excited to welcome Tim Cary as the next Head Men's and Women's Cross Country/Track and Field Coach. "The opportunity to be a part of building a tradition of excellence is very exciting," said Cary. "The coaches and student-athletes at Lindenwood-Belleville have done a tremendous job laying the foundation for success on the conference, regional, and national level. Being able to work with such a strong staff, supportive administration, and a growing institution makes this a great place to coach." Cary joins LU-Belleville after working at Fleet Feet Sports since 2011. There, he was the Assistant Training Director, where he worked with over 1,000 athletes per year through training programs, classes, or metabolic testing. He also coached over 50 Boston Marathon Qualifiers during his time there. Prior to joining Fleet Feet, Cary put together quite the resume. In 14 years at the high school level between Marquette High School (1994-2004) and the Windsor School District (2008-2010), he coached 85 All-State athletes, 12 national-ranked distance relays, eight teams that earned State Championship trophies, and a MTCCCA Distinguished Coaches Award. After his time at Marquette, Cary hit the college ranks. Working for a season at Lindenwood, he helped coach the Lions to their first National Championship in any sport. He then began a highly successful run in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) as an Assistant Cross Country and Track and Field Coach at Missouri Baptist University from 2004-2007. In that span, he coached 31 All-Americans, five Individual National Champions, two national records and two National Championship Team Titles. He won the Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year Award in his first season, while the following year he was the Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year. His accolades added on in 2006 as he was named the NAIA Women's Indoor Track and Field National Distance Coach of the Year. With the amount of coaching Cary has under his belt the most successful thing he's learned in leading a successful program is to look at the big picture. "I've been fortunate enough to work with and learn from numerous fantastic coaches and athletes. One of the things that all successful programs focus on is the big picture of being the best they can be." He added, "Developing a sense of family and a strong esprit de corps is integral in building an enthusiasm towards attacking individual and team goals." Now and in the future at Lindenwood-Belleville Cary is also expecting his teams to be successful on the field and in the classroom. "Our student-athletes will work hard in the classroom and in the competitive arena to be great representatives for Lindenwood-Belleville, our program, and themselves. We will continue to develop the tradition of excellence that Lindenwood-Belleville has become known for."”
