What the Coaches are Saying...
Apr 04, 2019

“VUU is a Division II institution in the CIAA conference, located in Richmond, VA. The Men’s team captured their 3rd straight CIAA Cross Country Championship in the fall of 2016. Junior Luis Nieves won the individual conference title and Athlete of the Year honors, and additionally, was named the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division II National Athlete of the Week for men. Four men were named All-Conference, and the program earned CIAA Athlete of the Week honors 5 different times, by 2 different athletes, through the season. The team won the Virginia State University Fall Opener, the VUU Panther Classic, and the VSU Invite. This fall saw the women’s Cross Country team collect CIAA Championship Runner-Up honors, the highest finish in school history. The women’s team posted a testament to true team effort, scoring 2nd place without any finisher inside the top 10. This capped a season where the Panther women won the Virginia State University Fall Opener, the VUU Panther Classic, and the VSU Invite as well. In spring of 2015 the men were CIAA Track Runner-up, and earned All-American honors in the 4x100 meter relay. Sophomore Chaz McKenzie earned CIAA Field Athlete MVP of the championships.”
