  • 2014 Wiregrass Indians (Alabama Indians) (17u )
  • Samuel currently (fall 2013) is hitting .400 with an on base of .556 through 11 games this fall with the (Alabama) Indians 17u. Summer of 2013 his ERA was 0.560 with 21 SO in 25 innings. His velo at an FSU camp in June 2013 was recorded at 82. His 60 time of 7.24 was recorded in the Southwest Championships in Southern California in late July, 2013 at an Underarmour Tournament while playing with Baseball Factory. The summer Indians schedule played against quality competition in Atlanta, Birmingham, AL and Pensaola, FL areas. The Indians 16u beat Team Georgia 16u (#10 national ranking by Perfect Game) 8-0 in five innings in Birmingham, AL. Samuel pitched against Mosley HS, Lynn Haven, FL (runner up in 6A Florida) and gave up one hit and no runs allowed through the first 4 innings (the only innings he pitched). The Indians ended up losing in 7 innings 2 - 1 with both runs unearned against a very good hitting team. The aces pitced for Mosely and shut down the Indians until the last few innings. Samuel started at SS and pitched on a regular basis. He had the best ERA among a good pitching staff. Fall 2012 while playing with the Jokers 16u Samuel had a .366 BA and a .488 OB playing in th Pensacola, FL Fall HS League with ASP. Although the Jokers only won a few games they gained great experience for a bunch of 14-15 year olds playing against teams like Pensacola Catholic (won the last two 4A state championships in Florida and the top national high school ranked team for 2013 by Max Preps and USA Today). Fast forward, the last weekend of September the (Alabama) Indians played their last of four weekend games against Pensacola Catholic and tied 2-2. Samuel was 2/3 at the plate with a walk. His team had a chance to win at the end but left a few on.
  • 2014 Wiregrass Indians 17u (Alabama Indians) (17u)
  • Summer 2014. Played up in 18u and 19u games. Played college teams as well. One game over .500. Not bad playing against great competition. Beat the 19u Dizzy Dean World Series Champs 2014. Beat the top rated Louisiana 18u team. Lost 2-0 to the 2nd best Louisiana 18u team. Tied a good East Cobb 18u Team. Was 6-0-1 against teams our age.

Events

  • Camp/Event
  • AHSAA North South All Star Game
  • 7/21/14 to 7/22/14
  • Samuel was the winning pitcher in game one that the South won 2-1. Samuel did not give up a hit, walk or run in 2.67 innings to close out the game. Top fast ball was 90.
  • Camp/Event
  • Mike Martin Super Skills Academy 2014
  • 6/22/14 to 6/27/14
  • Samuel has grown three inches taller since the same event in 2013. Rating scale of 1-8 with 8 being the highest rating, Samuel Arm Strength 6 (Pitching FB 86, CB 80, CH 80)(SS looked good); Accuracy 5 (SS good accuracy, good arm slot on DP feed)(Pitching keep eye on target sooner); Hands 7 (SS - work on early glove position); Footwork 6 (SS: quick feet! Shorten strides on throws) (Pitching: good job with foot strike); Hitting 6 (don't change bat angle on trigger; watch front foot keep it a bit more closed and opens after contact): General evaluation: Potential pitcher at the college level; BUT, your MIDDLE INFIELD SKILLS are VERY GOOD and project well at the COLLEGE LEVEL!!
  • Camp/Event
  • Kennesaw State University
  • 1/19/14 to 1/19/14
  • Samuel was sore from the day before at Mercer. He looked ok. He was rated a "3 average college player" at SS and "3.5 arm strength" on a 1-5 scale. A four is a impact college player and a five is a pro level.
  • Camp/Event
  • Mercer University
  • 1/18/14 to 1/18/14
  • Samuel showed well at SS. Threw 84 from SS. Ball carried well. Head coach was impressed with his smooth play at SS and strong arm. Commented on his excellent skills.
  • Camp/Event
  • Faulkner University Elite Camp
  • 11/16/13 to 11/16/13
  • Samuel showed good power during the game. Pitched well during game. His 1.0 second time to home plate from the stretch was recognized by the scouts. Looked good on the mound.
  • Camp/Event
  • Lee University Prospect Camp
  • 11/09/13 to 11/09/13
  • Top fast ball was 86. Other fastballs range 78-81. Ran, hit, pitched and played MI. Pitching looked good. Hitting looked good. Never had a grounder hit to him during game. Threw all fastballs except for one pitched to 6 batters. Allowed no runs. Forgot his metal bat and used his wood bat. Samuel hides and disguises his pitches well. All three of his pitches are deliver with the same arm slot and motion making it hard to tell what he is throwing. Has multiple fast ball speeds. Excellent curve and change and all for strikes under pressure. Excellent SS with lots of range. Lee U coaches commented on his pitching. He did get more invites from Tennessee and Tennessee Wesleyan to attend their camps.
  • Camp/Event
  • Shorter University Prospect camp
  • 10/26/13 to 10/26/13
  • All day showcase. Hit, pitched, SS and ran. SS did not look himself. Had not fielded a grounder in 6 weeks. Hitting was good. Pitching looked good. Low eighties fast ball. Great sick curve ball. Throws all pitches for a strike. Shorter, Ohio and Kennesaw commented on they liked his pitching. Kennesaw invited him to another workout with their coaches.
  • Camp/Event
  • Chipola prospect camp
  • 9/21/13 to 9/21/13
  • Top fast ball 82. Looked good at short. Hitting looked good with plenty of opposite field line drives. Smooth swing. Kept on back foot. 15 plus schools attended.
  • Camp/Event
  • Under Armour Southwest Championships
  • 7/29/13 to 8/03/13
  • Samuel played on Baseball Factory's Orange team. He was one of the younger players on the team. It was a great experience to play with 18u players mostly from the Calfiornia areas. He saw that he can compete at such a high level. If his Alabama Indians 16u team had been in the tournament field of 65 teams that they would have placed high. He now realizes how good of a team he played on summer of 2013. He gained some confidence after leaving the event and reflecting on the 5 games he played in. He did not have a single ball hit to him at shortstop the first three games. He pitched two innings during the first game and gave up 2 earned runs. He said he felt a little weird playing in California. I think it was because he was a little under developed physically and a little younger than the competition. His skills were fine. He also has been working on getting stronger with a trainer this last summer just before the tournament so he was still sore from the workouts.
  • Camp/Event
  • Mike Martin super skills academy
  • 6/23/13 to 6/28/13
  • fastball 82, nickname was "skinny strong arm", 48 HS players, four teams, team was undefeated, played SS and pitched some, no errors, no runs allowed, 3/7 at the plate, Mike Bell said he recommends Samuel to play JC and get stronger and playing time because if he came to FSU as a freshman that he would most likely not play until his junior year. They felt since he is a late bloomer that he will be throwing low 90's by the time he graduates high school.
  • Camp/Event
  • Demarini
  • 7/23/12 to 7/24/12
  • 15 plus schools. Fastball 76. Ran 8.3 60 time. 85 exit velo. Headed to the tenth grade. Needs to grow and get stronger. Good comments on his pitching from the stretch his ball arrives at the plate at the equivalent of a 90 mph pitched. Hides and disguises his pitches well reported by Troy University coach.
  • Camp/Event
  • Under Armour Baseball Factory Omaha tournament and camp
  • 6/25/12 to 6/29/12
  • Samuel was young and small. Played ok. Showed excellent skills while working with college and professional coaches. His coach for the event said he had the attitude, poise and skills to play professional baseball. He was 15 years old and going into the 10th grade.
