Personal Statement
Hello. My name is Thomas. Since I was in middle school, I have always dreamed of playing collegiate baseball. As an outfielder and relief pitcher, baseball is my primary team sport. I am also an outside linebacker for my high school football team. Twice a week, I work with a private hitting coach, once a week, I work with a pitching coach. Three times a week, I work with a strength and conditioning coach at Randolph School. I have learned that performing on the field and in the classroom requires a daily commitment to excellence. Excellence meaning, doing work or practicing right, the first time and every time after, even when exhausted. As a military child, in my lifetime, I have moved 6 times, lived in 5 different states and attended 7 different schools. It was difficult moving around every 2-3 years but it taught me some very valuable lessons. I learned how to make new friends quickly and how to adapt to change. Through my years baseball has given me purpose and structure that has helped me in my everyday life, I don’t know where I would be without it. It is not an easy task, but if I am awarded the opportunity to play college baseball, I am up for the challenge!
A few other items about me. As an Eagle Scout, I have earned 25 merit badges and fund raised to attend Sea Base National High Adventure in Florida, twice. First trip allowed me to see how a crew sails a 75-foot schooner, my second trip as a Scuba Diving adventure. For 6 years I played French Horn in each of my schools' band programs. In August 2020, 8 years of religious education culminated with confirmation in our family’s faith tradition. During my high school tenure, I am a member of the following clubs: (1) Mock Trial; (2) Raider Outreach (community service); (3) Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)); (4) Investing Club; and (5) Optimist Club. In 2016, while living in Omaha, Nebraska, I was 1 of 16 kids selected in a national contest and won a fully funded week at Space Camp. Currently, I have a 3.5 GPA and have one advance placement course this year. As a military child, this was accomplished within 6 moves while living in 5 different states, and attending 7 different schools. Mahalo.
