Personal Statement
My name is Evan Vander Valk. I am currently an upcoming senior attending Westwood High School in Mesa AZ. I am hopefully still getting bigger but weigh 220 lbs and am 6'4". I bat and throw right handed.
I recently switched my primary position from 1st to Centerfield. Although it is a tough transition I love it already, I run a 6.8 60 yard dash so that helps a lot in the outfield. My secondary position is 1st, although I can play essentially anywhere on the ballfield, in my own mind making me an all around ball player.
Baseball has been my passion for as long as I can remember. I'm pretty sure my dad and mom had me throwing and catching a baseball before I could talk. That is part of the reason why baseball is my passion. I have two loving parents who support me in every decision I make. I am also very lucky to have been surrounded by great coaches who have given me the tools to be the great ball player I am becoming.
My favorite part about the game is that you can be the best player in the world one minute and go 0-4 the next. That is why I love it, you never get bored of it because you have to work so hard at improving every aspect of yourself to say on top of your game, to be the best ball player I can be.
After my upcoming senior year my main goal is to go to a good college and continue my baseball carrier. As for what I would like to study in college I would like to major in either physical therapy or criminal justice, still haven't decided yet. I even have given thought to going into the coast guard to continue serving others with the gifts God has blessed me with. As my most important accomplishments go in baseball, I made Varsity my freshman year and transferred from 4A to 6A my junior year and made 2nd team all region. I am always open to advice, because one thing I have learned from the game of baseball is that the people who demand the very best from you are the ones who will never leave your side. I am very coachable and have good character. I am always willing to put in the work that will help make me the best version of me I can be.
Thank you for taking the time to read my statement,
Evan Vander Valk.
