Personal Statement
My name is Alejandro J. Smith-Amaya from Saint Mary's High School in Phoenix, Arizona. I am 6’0” and weigh 175 pounds. I have been playing baseball my whole life and it is a big part of my life. Through my years of playing I have played every position and I have substantial experience at each through multiple seasons playing each position. Once I got to the High School level I decided to focus playing an infield position. Towards the end of my freshman year my coach moved me to third base where I played at for most games. When I reached the JV and Varsity level my coaches had me try the pitcher’s position where I was pretty successful. So the the past two years, I’ve been playing the majority of the time at third and have been called in as a relief pitcher. At times whne my club ball team is short of players, I have played second base as well. As far as my offense goes, most of the time I’m patient but aggressive and can hit the gaps well. But I have always been a contact hitter, the guy that can move the runner over. Because of my versatility on defense and my consistency on offense, I was named the Outstanding Player of the Year for my JV team in 2017. Because of my offensive skill I have always bounced around the lineup based on wherever my coach felt I would be the most effective and I have always performed. I believe that I will be a good addition to any team I play on because of my natural inclination to winning and to never give up or come up with excuses. I believe that success in a program comes because of each player doing their own part to help the team and putting in every last ounce of their passion for the game. And that is what I try to do every time I am given the opportunity. My collegiate goals are to of course play college baseball but also receive an education in the area of study that I choose as I am currently undecided between two majors I want to pursue. I appreciate you taking the time to read my personal statement and hope for the best to you and your program. God bless.
