Personal Statement
My name is Mason Pankey, I am 5'11" and weigh 200 pounds. I started playing baseball when I was about 3 years old. Baseball has always been a part of my life and was something that I could never see giving up. I have loved this sport since the day I started at the T- Ball level. Around 7th grade, I started noticing that my hitting was going to be a strong suit for me. Since then, my hitting has become stronger and faster than ever and I am a consistent strong position hitter no matter what place I land in the lineup. While my primary and favorite position is behind the plate, I have experience in all fielding positions and have performed well. Toward the end of my 8th grade season, I was invited to continue extended league season with the High School team where the coach put me behind the plate and on the mound. While I do not have a lot of experience pitching, my coach wanted me to continue working on that position as well as other positions on the field since there are several more senior catchers on the team. I have been taking pitching lessons since then to improve my ability on the bump and hopefully be an asset to my team in that position as well as any other I am allowed to play. With enough hard work, I feel confident I can play anywhere on the field and give my team a consistent and strong bat.
I am extremely motivated to play baseball at the college level. My work ethic and heart are what make me confident I can do this. I also play football for my school and received the Lineman of the Year Award this season. During the coach’s speech, he commended me on my work ethic, attitude, execution, and coachability. I hope to show any coach and team I play for that this is who I am and that I can bring a lot to their roster. I thrive through challenges on and off the field and put 120% effort into everything I do. The summer after 5th grade, I was diagnosed with Dyslexia which is a learning difference that makes reading difficult. I work hard everyday to overcome this and have maintained an “A” average throughout each school year. I currently have a 3.95 GPA, am enrolled in Advanced Placement classes, and I am also I rolled in College Classes as well. I plan to major in either Engineering or Sports Medicine in school and would love to find a school that sees its student athletes’ academic success as a top priority.
I appreciate you taking the time out of your day to learn more about me and want to say good luck in the upcoming baseball season.
