My name is Jackson Baker and I'm a 5'11 catcher for Little Rock Catholic high school for boys. My goal is to play at a competitive program that matches my capability and playing style. Ever since I was five years old I wanted to play ball, my dad has supported me of playing until this day, so I want to thank him for giving me the opportunity to play and write about this statement today. I've learned that being a catcher growing up takes a lot of leadership and the reason why I say that is because you have to be aware at all times with runners on or off the field. It's not like your pitching and you make one mistake and it might just be a ball or a hit, when catchers make mistakes it can determine outings, games, counts, and many more. In my family Academics come first before anything, and I'm proud to say that I have maintained a cumulative GPA of a 3.5. My high school and college goal are to constantly have a 3.0 GPA or higher, and I want to major in mechanical engineering. The toughest obstacle I have had this year was that this is my first year playing varsity, since last year I was ineligible because I transferred to a public school to a private school and Arkansas AAA makes you sit out a year. My biggest asset for a team is I'm a scrappy catcher, meaning I'm going to give you my best in practice, games, and off the field. I think by doing that it helped my pitchers on having the confidence to throw me a 2-1 curveball with bases loaded and knowing if they throw it in the dirt I will block it any way I can no matter what. My relationships with my teammates, classmates, parents, coaches, and my pitchers especially are good. My loyalty for the game and my team mean very much to me and I'm always trying to get better anywhere I go. I'm just a good old boy from Arkansas.
