Personal Statement
My name is Nathan Huarte, I am 5'8'' and weigh 145 pounds. I have been playing organized baseball since the early age of 7, and there is nothing else I'd rather do than play the game. My growth spurt didn't start until the summer of my sophomore year, in less than 6 months’ time I have grown tremendously; mentally and physically. I have put on roughly 8 pounds of muscle after one year in the weight room and 4 months of strength and conditioning programs. I have developed a very good transfer with good carry in my throws. I have great footwork around second base on double plays. Offensively, I have an on-time launch with activated hands. My lower half works well with a direct path to the ball. I have the ability to utilize the opposite field. Overall, I believe that I have a great foundation that places me among the top high school second basemen. I believe in perseverance 100%.
I am extremely motivated to play baseball in college. My competitiveness isn’t just on the field but in the classroom as well. I want the professors to know that I work just as hard off of the field and will continue to have that same drive with my studies. I am more than aware that there is excellent baseball to be played in all divisions of the NCAA, therefore I am open to anything that fits me, my teammates, and future coaching staff. I am looking for an opportunity for continuous growth and learning at a high level of competitive baseball under experienced coaches.
I have always been a strong bat in the lineup, right side dominant, currently batting in the number two spot. When not at second base, I have played all positions with the exceptions of catcher. As early as 10 years old, my coach and Hard 90 owner Rick Sundberg told us knowing every position would add value on a personal and team level, so I have embraced that philosophy. I believe that after playing so many different positions, I have become a much more aware player. For instance, my experience as a pitcher has made me a significantly better base runner. My reads are better, and my jumps are quicker. In most of my competitive years I lead my team in stolen bases.
Regarding schools, I hope to find the perfect fit for me. I am the type of student that builds strong relationships and stays in constant communication with my teachers. I am looking forward to going on many college visits to find that perfect fit. Geographically, I am interested in playing on the west coast, because I am from California and I know how important it is to be within a short car or plane ride from your family at any given time, but if the right opportunity presented itself, I would chose the path that presented the best coaches and most competitive baseball, regardless of the location.
I appreciate you taking the time out of your day to read my personal statement and I wish you and your team the best of luck in the upcoming baseball season.
