Personal Statement

  Hello Coach,

My name is Dean West Perez and I am a Class of 2017 3B, SS, 2B, LF, RHP from Sierra Pacific High School in Hanford, California.  I am a three year Varsity Letterman in baseball ,3 time Academic Letterman, honest, dedicated, motivated, have a strong work ethic, with the will to win, and know that consistent hard work is the key to reaching my goals as a student-athlete and to a winning team. Being a productive teammate to help my team win is my main goal in baseball and I have been a competitor since I was 4years old.  I just graduated and completed my Associates of Science degree in Kinesiology from West Hills College Coalinga.

I am currently (summer 2021) playing for the California Expos Carolina Blue wood bat team in the Central Valley Collegiate League in California . I competed for the Sacramento Heat wood bat team in the Golden State Collegiate Baseball League for the summer of 2019. I was attending William Jessup University on a baseball scholarship in 2019-2020 when our season was cut short due to Covid-19. I currently have two full years of eligibility to play baseball. I attended and competed for University of Minnesota Morris Cougars for the 2019 season. As a sophomore in college at UMM I was a RHP and 3B. I had attended and competed at West Hills Community College in Coalinga, California as a Freshman in college. As part of the Falcon baseball team I was able to compete as a RHP, 2B, 3B. I have been competing all my life and want to continue to compete at a four year University in college while working towards my degree.

In high school our Sierra Pacific Golden Bears Baseball team won the Valley Championship in 2017 when I was a Senior and I was able to contribute towards our win hitting in one of the two runs during the Championship game held at Rawhide Stadium (home to the Rawhide single A team for the Arizona Diamondbacks). We had been the East Sequoia League Champions three years in a row 2014, 2015, and 2016 and continued on our winning streak in 2017.  I was the starting Shortstop/ RHP as a freshman on the JV Golden Bears team who went undefeated in league. As a sophomore on Varsity I was a starting 3rd baseman and RHP pitcher. As a Junior I was a starting 2nd baseman and DH receiving honors as the 2nd team All League Infielder for the East Sequoia League in 2016 and worked hard to always produce for our team. As a Senior I was selected as a Valley All Star playing in the All Star game at Bakersfield College.

I take my academics seriously and received my Varsity letter in academics my first semester as a freshman, honored by the math department and have earned my Academic Letter a total of 3times in high school. As a sophomore I was honored by Congressman David Valadao with a "Certificate of Outstanding Academics " 2015. As a junior I received my third Academic letter and a certificate of Academic honors from SPHS.

I continue to work on my skills in the off season and competed for the Pilots collegiate wood bat team in the Central Valley Collegiate League summer of 2018. I also was chosen as an 18u All Star and competed in the California State Championship for Babe Ruth summer of 2018. I competed for the Kings County Bombs Baseball Club,18u travel baseball team in high school and the Fresno, CA Team Avenue Aces. I work out in the off season with a personal trainer and a pitching and hitting coach. I was an All-Star pitcher and 3rd baseman in Little League for four years in a row.  I was honored as a featured upcoming player in the 2013,2014,2015 book editions of "The Best Players in USSSA" baseball.  As a freshman on JV I pitched six complete games for the win and closed four more for the save, and played at shortstop when I wasn't pitching. Our team went undefeated in league. As a sophomore on Varsity I was able to pitch one complete game for the win 11-6, 1 earned run, 1BB. Our Golden Bears team were Co-League Champions. I brought in the winning run for the team on a walk off after two extra innings in the 1st playoff game for the Valley Championships in a tied 1to1 game. At 15 I made the Hanford Babe Ruth All Star 15 year old team as a pitcher and 3rd baseman.  As a junior Starting 2nd baseman and DH I was honored as the 2nd Team All League 2B for the East Sequoia League and drove in the most runs for the team with 23 runs batted in for our Golden Bears. We ended our season as the East Sequoia League Champions 2016. As a senior for the Golden Bears I was a DH,2B. Our team won the East Sequoia League Championship and went on to earn the title of the CIF Central Section Valley Champions 2017. At the Valley Championship game held at Rawhide Stadium in Visalia, CA I hit in one of the two runs ending the game with a score of 2-0 helping our team win the Valley Championship. I was chosen as a All Valley player my senior year and competed in the All Valley All Stars game at Bakersfield College.  I am studying Physical Education/ Kinesiology, Sports Management and coaching in college. I am also coaching a Hanford Babe Ruth 15's team during the summer. My goals are to coach baseball at the collegiate level after I complete a Master's degree. Where ever I end up in college I know I will continue with the same strong work ethic that my parents have instilled in me on and off the field. I am a competitor and looking forward to meeting you on the field.
