Personal Statement

My name is Spencer Gradek.  I am from Belmont, California.  I am a 6’0 187 lb., smart (3.61 GPA), versatile OF, P, 1B (620 BA, 691 OBP) with a 96 top exit velo, senior prospect at Design Tech High School.  I've been playing baseball since my early T-ball days and will continue to play on the DTHS varsity baseball team upcoming 2023 spring season.  

As a L/L, I am an outfielder, pitcher and first baseman.   I work hard on and off the field and achieved straight A's my junior Fall/Winter semester.  I ended my junior year with a 3.8 GPA.  I am always looking for ways to help my teammates and friends with the challenges they face.  I always work to lift people up so they can work hard to succeed as I have been able to do.    

I love to play baseball.  It is one of the hardest sports to be successful in.  It challenges me every day to do and be my best.  The most important lesson I have been able to learn from playing baseball has been making sure I have a growth mindset.  Failures in baseball leads to achieving success in your goals if you stick with it, learn from your mistakes, and work hard to reach your goals.  Having come out of COVID in 2020 and 2021, 2022 has been my best season yet!  You can find my stats on MaxPrep.

Spring 2022 season accomplishments:

1. 11th place in Spring 2022 California for BA (as of August 5, 2022)


2. 12th place in Spring 2022 California for OBP (as of August 5, 2022)


3. 41st place for Spring 2022 Nationwide (as of August 5, 2022)


4. Spring 2022 MVP

6. Varsity player since 2019

My academic strengths are math and science.  I really enjoy engineering, creating things and took a course in architecture earlier this year.  I am currently completing my summer analytical trigonometry class at Skyline Community College.  I am looking for a school with solid mathematics and engineering programs particularly mechanical engineering.

My personal academic accomplishments to date:

1. Scholar athlete award 2022


2. Straight A’s first semester of my junior year.  Exited junior year 2021-2022 with 3.8 GPA (only 1 B+).  This is after my COVID sophomore year of remote learning with a 3.4. 


3. Approved proposal presentation to Oracle to build a rock climbing wall at the school for fitness and health. 

I am looking forward to playing college baseball.
