“Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work” by Thomas Edison.
Hi, my name is Alexander Waisbord, I am from San Diego, California. I am in the graduating Class of 2026 at Torrey Pines High School. I pride myself on and off the field, of being a fierce competitor. There are no obstacles placed in front of me that I cannot overcome. On the field, I want to be the person that leads my team to victory. I want to be that guy in the front line either on that plate in an important at bat or with the ball in my hand leading my team to victory. Even though I mostly play infield, coaches throughout my playing career have entrusted me as a pitcher in tough situations to lead the team to victory. They know that I am not afraid of the challenge and that I can get the job done. As a leader and fierce competitor, I have extreme confidence in myself, but I know that I cannot achieve the results that I want without the help of my teammates. That is why, I am there number one cheerleader and ensure that we are all working together as a team.
Since I can remember, my dream was to play baseball in college and one day reach the Major Leagues. As the quote by Mr. Thomas Edison states, the opportunity exists as long as I work hard to achieve my goals. I work tirelessly daily to reach my goals. I work out four times a week at a CrossFit facility, in addition to daily hitting and multiple days on the field. I understand the responsibilities as a student athlete and the importance of being able to balance baseball with school, along with being a good friend and teammate. I am learning time management in order to be successful in the upcoming years. Off the field I take the same approach as on the field. I want to be the leader; I want to be the best at what I do. School and academics are very important to me, as I know that one day, after I reach my dream of playing in the Majors, I will have to apply my learnings from school to be successful the rest of my life.
As Simone Biles once said, “Always work hard and have fun in what you do because I think that’s when you’re more successful. You have to choose to do it”. In my opinion, that is the main reason in why I have been successful in this sport and in life. I love doing it and I love the work, the process of what it takes to become the best at what you do.
