Personal Statement
Hard work, positivity and dedication are the key qualities I live by, both as a competitive
baseball player and as a student.
My name is Anthony Matter. I am currently a Junior at Santa Teresa High School in San Jose,
California. Besides playing on my high school baseball team, I also play for the Kali/Trosky
baseball travel team in San Jose, CA. I currently play in the outfield in center and left field.
My goal and aspiration is to play baseball at the next level. To achieve this goal, I challenge and
push myself daily to improve my skills in hitting, fielding, throwing, and conditioning. I have a
very strong work ethic, whether it be in practice, games, or in the weight room, I always give
110%. I take pride in competing with myself every single day and I am always focused, prepared
and ready to compete on that field. In addition to this, I spend every free moment I have
training, practicing, and conditioning on my own to continually improve my skills.
I have a great positive attitude in all aspects of my life. I am always willing to encourage and
support my teammates and peers to the best of my ability. I am the first one to
show up and last one to leave.
I am consistently pushing and challenging myself to be the best player and person I can be, both
on the field and in the classroom. I currently hold a 4.4 GPA/ and a cumulative 3.8 GPA. I still
push myself every single day to do better and increase those grades. I plan on majoring in
either computer science or visual design and I am looking for a great baseball program, but also
looking for a college that is the right fit for me academically.
I love playing baseball. It’s my life. I eat, sleep, live and breathe baseball 24/7. Both my great
grandfather and grandfather played professionally, it’s in my blood. I am looking to be a part of
a college baseball program where I can help contribute to the team's success, as well as work
with a coaching staff that will continue to challenge and assist me to further develop my
baseball skills.
