Personal Statement

My name is Jacob Villareal and I attend Torrance High School in Torrance, CA.  I play middle infield.

I am grateful I get to play the sport I love, I  give 100% effort every time I step foot on the field. Some athlete’s may play baseball for fun, for me it’s my passion; I have played baseball all my life, and it has not only provided me with a passion, but it has taught me so much more, it has encouraged me to work hard in the classroom, it has taught me the importance of being reliable, to work together as a team, and how vital it is to respect and communicate with my coaches and teammates. I was a part of the Babe Ruth Organization for three years; The first two years we made it to regional, the third year we took it a step further and won the World Series in Willingston North Dakota. I set very high standards for myself, and that helps me improve my skills as a ball player and as a student. I have been awarded the blue collar award and the best defensive player award. I believe good work ethics is one of the most important component for success. I have a supportive family who helps me and guides me, and I am very grateful for all of the sacrifices they make for me and my brother. I know that academics will play a big roll in my future;  My goal is to find a school that is a good fit for me, and a place where I can make an impact on the field.

  • Jacob Villareal is a 2018 SS/2B with a 5-8 150 lb. frame from Torrance, CA who attends Torrance. Medium frame with a lean build and wiry strength. Projects for additional strength. Ran a 7.16 sixty-yard dash. Primary shortstop with aggressive footwork while working to and surrounding the baseball. Funnels the baseball from a slightly deeper position and worked through exchange with quick, clean actions. Flashed solid range while moving to each side with efficient first step angles. Released from a low three-quarters slot generating accurate carry across the infield at 78 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an upright, even stance and simple front side trigger. Works into contact with some linear lower half actions. Direct hand path to baseball with a fluid line drive barrel plane through extension. Repeated path and plane very well and flashed excellent control for the barrel throughout the hitting zone. Stayed balanced and behind contact while utilizing a high contact, mid field approach. Good student.
