Personal Statement

Baseball will always be my passion.  But I strive to be well-rounded both academically and athletically.  I enjoy regularly to do other sports like Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, and Muay Thai.  Along with baseball in High School, I was on the Wrestling and Water Polo teams.  I also find time to be a Student Council Member, too.  I feel my strongest asset is I am a highly coachable player and student.

As a pitcher in baseball, since I was 7 years-old, I worked hard in being the "go-to" pitcher.  My pitching tends to produce ground balls and pop-ups, by me having command and movement over my 5 pitches for location (4-seam, 2-seam, change-up, cutter, and curveball). Throughout each season, my velocity steadily increases, along with my strikeouts, by tediously working on improving my pitching mechanics.

When it comes to hitting, I know the strike zone well.  I'm looking to drive my pitch early in the count and produce a timely team hit with a methodical two-strike approach.

Playing first base, I have a high baseball I.Q. for defensive team shifts , while I always strive to have good range for hard hit balls to me, and I constantly work on being a reliable target to my infielders by picking balls thrown in the dirt, if need be.

Finally, what ever College or University I can be fortunate to play for, I am confident I will be a major asset to my team, while aspiring to get my important college degree.

Sincerely,

-Tyler Lumbao
