My name is Nathan Waugh and I will graduate in 2020 from Yorba Linda High School (Yorba Linda, CA). I’m a 6’4” 200lb catcher, and I’m interested in playing baseball at the next level.
I've earned a 4.57 GPA through my sophomore year, earning As in all my classes. I am enrolled in Honors Math, Science, and Spanish, and plan on taking several Advanced Placement courses as well. I've worked hard on developing good work habits so I can succeed in these challenging high school classes. I complete all my assignments on time, always study for tests, and treat my teachers with respect. As you can see, school is very important to me. I don’t ever want to stop playing baseball, but I’m still planning for life after the game.
I pride myself on being a vocal leader behind the plate, helping pitchers get outs, and controlling the flow of the game. I listen to my coaches, play hard during games, work hard at practices, and put in extra work off the field so I can keep getting better.
I have been preparing all my life because I love the game of baseball. I’ve been watching Angel games since I was born, and have played baseball since I could hold a bat. I consider myself a student of the game, and have read dozens of books & biographies. My two favorites are “The Science of Hitting” by Ted Williams and David Maraniss’ biography of Roberto Clemente (he’s why I’m #21). I’ve visited the Baseball Hall of Fame while playing a tournament in Cooperstown. I’ve seen the College World Series while playing a tournament in Omaha. Baseball is in my blood, and I want to play at the next level.
Thank you for taking the time to read my statement. I am very serious about being a scholar athlete & appreciate your consideration.
