Hi my name is Turner McDonald and I am from Summit County, Colorado, a place primarily known for it’s ski resorts. Living in the mountains my whole life, I have been accustomed to being outside and having activities to do, for example snowboarding, hiking, playing football, basketball and baseball. Even though I had many things to do, at a young age I loved baseball and basketball more than any other activity or sport. I pursued and am still pursuing these sports into my senior year of high school. As I got older I wanted to play more competitive baseball, so my parents supported me and drove me more than an hour away to go practice and play against tougher competition. In my baseball career I have played all over the diamond. In doing so it has helped me discover which positions I loved the most which has turned out to be middle infield. My first year in high school I played third base and after my freshman year I moved into the shortstop position.
As I progressed through school not only was I looking for better competition on the field, but also in the classroom. Next year I am taking four college courses to try and get a head start on college credits. I have always kept a high GPA because I know how important it is, that’s why I have been placed in higher level classes through my high school career. Staying focused in the classroom has helped me stay focused on the field. Playing an hour away and taking these classes show how dedicated I am, and when I set my mind to something I get it done to the best of my ability. Another thing I love about the game is the camaraderie. The family atmosphere that you build with your teammates, that makes it more fun to play. I hope to continue playing this game and challenging myself at the next level.
