Personal Statement
My name is Declan Magill
I am in the Class of 2020 at Silver Creek High School in Longmont, Colorado.
Growing up, Baseball has always been a huge part of a life and one that I thoroughly enjoy. I gravitate towards baseball because it provides an athletic and intellectual challenge, which I feel like college baseball will emphasize. I love learning more about the game and how to improve as an athlete so that I can perform better than before. I enjoy working on my skills as I know I will have the confidence to execute at a high level during a game. Baseball has taught me how to take losses, how to reflect on them and how to improve on them, which are life-long lessons I will never forget.
In college I would like to be able play baseball but also obtain a degree. My academics are very important to me, as I strive to maintain an A average despite taking demanding AP classes. I take pride in both how I do in the classroom and on the field, so I will work as hard as I can to maintain the best quality of performance in both areas. For baseball, that has been getting stronger in the off season by lifting and creating a program based on that and for academics that has been staying on top of my homework.
I strive to be a leader and well-rounded student, so I am in our school's National Honors Society and play the trombone in two of our school bands, the advanced jazz band and the symphonic band and playing piano in my free-time.
The only way I've been able to maintain this busy lifestyle is through discipline and complete focus in whatever I am working on, and in college I plan to apply these values to my lifestyle.
Thank you for reading my personal statement.
