Personal Statement
Since I was young, I have always loved the game of baseball. I did not play at a highly competitive level like many of my peers though until I got to high school. During the summer prior to 9th Grade, I tried out and made a competitive team. Playing that summer made me realize that I needed to work harder if I wanted a future in baseball. After my freshman year, I joined the Lightning baseball program and trained all off-season. I then had a breakout sophomore year where I started every game and led the Ponderosa sophomore team to the best record in the program. My coaches often remarked that I was a team leader who led the team by example in performance, attitude, hard work and hustle. I had a very successful spring season on all fronts as a junior and last summer playing with a Lightning Baseball club team. I have continued to train with Lightning this fall and have added a strength and conditioning routine to my workouts by going to the gym at least five times per week. I lost 40 pounds in the last 8 months after setting a goal to lose weight.
Off the field, as a senior, I am likewise challenging myself. I am currently enrolled in 3 AP classes and finished last semester with a 4.33 GPA with 3 As and 1 B in my AP classes. I am confident that I will continue to succeed and do well academically moving forward. I retook the ACT this past fall and, after having promised myself that I would improve my initial score by 5 points, I did and achieved a composite score of 29 and a superscore of 30.
When it comes to selecting the right school, many options are open although I am sure that I will have success both academically and athletically at any level. I know that with my work ethic, coachability, intelligence and competitiveness that I will contribute to any program.
