Personal Statement
My name is Thomas Girard and I am a member of the class of 2017 at Avon Old Farms School in Avon, Connecticut. I am primarily a right-handed pitcher and catcher, but also have experience at second base. As a freshman, I was the only member of my class to be invited to travel with the Varsity team to Port St. Lucie, Florida for their Spring baseball trip. I gained experience playing with the Junior Varsity team as the staff’s No. 1 pitcher and catcher. As a sophomore, I made the varsity team and earned a spot in the rotation as a pitcher. I am also the backup catcher. Although I am one of the youngest players on the team, it is my goal to be a leader and support my teammates at all times.
I attribute my success on the baseball field to my knowledge of the game and to the academic excellence I strive for everyday, for I am a student of the game. I am committed to excellence, whether it’s pitching or studying, and refuse to accept anything but the best in myself. The qualities I bring to the next level are my leadership skills and my commitment to excellence. I am an active member in clubs and activities that allow me to contribute to the Avon Old Farms community. My goal is to play collegiate baseball at the highest level possible, while also pursuing a degree in engineering.
