My name is Michael Kashuba and I am a junior at Oxford High School. I am 5’10’’ and currently weigh 150 lbs. Who I am today has been influenced largely by my family, friends, and school. My hometown, Oxford, CT, is a small town that is dominated by baseball. Baseball is what most kids in our town play, and while our high school is relatively new, the high school program is continually getting better and better.
Baseball has played an extremely large role in my life and continues to be what I focus on nonstop; whether it’s going to one of my team’s practices or games, throwing a ball off of my garage door, or spending countless hours hitting in the cages.
I became interested in baseball in 3rd grade, when my friends were playing for the Oxford Babe Ruth league. Since the first day I stepped onto the field to play for the first time, I have never been as interested in any other sport as baseball. I constantly surround myself with everything to do with baseball. I guess you might say I am somewhat obsessed with baseball and dream of being the best I can be at the game.
Baseball has allowed me to learn and develop in so many ways. I am extremely competitive and always try to be as close to perfect even with the smallest challenges. I have learned that through dedication and effort that I can achieve anything. Getting out of a slump, having a poor performance, giving up a winning run are just some of the experiences that have taught me about the ups and downs of baseball which have taught me all about grit and effort. I realize this is the case not only in baseball, but in life too. Playing baseball has taught me that with the ups and downs of life, everything will work out if I focus and set my mind to it.
I like to challenge myself not only on the field but in the classroom as well. In school, I have taken several advanced placement and honors courses. I especially enjoy science, math and computers and hope to major in computer science. I strive to be the best student athlete in my school.
With my competitive personality, having other players be taller or stronger than myself only motive me to work harder than I already do. I'll do whatever it takes to earn my spot on the field. On my team I'm known as the player who arrives way too early to practices and games and the last one to leave. I plan on working even harder in college with the skill level increasing. Thank you for looking at my profile.
