Personal Statement
I believe that I would be a good candidate to be selected for your team because I can show leadership, organization and courage. Leadership does not necessarily mean that you are the Captain of the team, or the Valedictorian of your class. A good leader is one that has attributes that may be similar to others in order to make a difference and achieve their goals together. A leader will aspire to have integrity, honesty, humility and with the ability to catalyze performance, not only in oneself but in your team during the best and worse of times.
Humility is important, it goes hand in hand with being respectful to others. It makes everyone's worth equal. No one person is better then the other, but collectively "the sum is only as great as its parts". There is always room for improvement in order to reach our goals, and set new ones as we continually grow and adapt to change. I believe reaching one's goals takes ambition, guidance and direction and takes the ability to accept support as well as give support.
I have personally had to adapt to change. I have moved a few times due to my father's employment with the Air Force, and had to adapt to changing schools and meeting new people. My mother has taught me that education is important because it provides options in life, and that no one can take your education away. She also taught me to never accept statement "No you can't". Ambition and education provide you with the options to say "Yes I can". Last year I had an injury, while playing basketball in a local pick up game, where I had hurt my knee. I did not realize the extent of my injury at the time. I had played in a Perfect Game showcase tournament in Georgia that weekend, and pitched my best game. The next day, while I was running from 2nd to 3rd, my knee buckled and was diagnosed with a torn ACL. In less than 2 weeks after surgery I was in physical therapy. I was depressed, but with the support of my family, friends, teammates, and learning from other kids as they rehabilitate that this injury was not an obstacle. This was a learning experience to come back stronger, and tell my story to others to not give up their dream.
In less then 5 months, I returned to the game of baseball which I love, and have been recruited by 2 top travel teams. I have had the opportunity to be trained by former professional players, that help to inspire me. It would be a great achievement to be a professional baseball player, but few are selected. I choose to be someone to inspire others, whether on a small field, a large ballpark, or within my community. I would like to further my education and pursue a career in physical therapy. This is a field that can not only rehabilitate someone from sport's injuries, but help individuals like cancer or geriatric patients maintain their level of independence.
