Personal Statement

One opportunity; that is all I am asking for and all I need to show you who I am and what I can bring to your team.

I believe my work ethic and skills can be beneficial to a collegiate program. I work hard and I don't cut corners when it comes to meeting my goals and helping my team succeed. I consider a baseball team like family. The most successful ones depend on individuals carrying their own weight, while knowing what their teammates need to be able to play at their highest level.

As a catcher my pop time is consistently between 1.95 and 1.99. This is physical proof of my work ethic. I lowered my pop time from a 2.2 and am continuing to perfect my craft and increase my arm strength. I will be a wall defensively,  providing consistency and reliability behind the plate, along with precise throws to stop runners from stealing. I speak up on the field, bring energy, and I don't quit.

What separates me from other players with similar physical talents is my ability to bring out the best in my pitchers. I present a good target, but more importantly I get to know each pitcher. I learn what makes them most comfortable on the mound and how they approach the game. I make in-game adjustments based on who is pitching and by ensuring their comfort I enable them to perform at their highest level. Getting to know the bullpen also helps me know what to say during mound visits to motivate each pitcher and help the team in clutch situations.

At the plate I'm a switch hitter, bringing versatility to the game when it's needed. Having a brother who played D1, I know that matchups are very important at the college level as everyone is talented so any advantage can make the difference in a game.

Playing at the collegiate level will give me the opportunity to learn more about the game, participate in a college workout program, and work with high level coaches. I want this experience and know that it is a necessary step in getting me to the next level after college.

Some players reach the collegiate level based on their projectability. I'm self made and will perform at the next level not just because of my talent but because of my discipline, leadership, and heart.

Everyone has heard the saying, “hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard”. But I’ve got talent. And I work hard. Combine that with my love for the game and I’ll find a way to succeed anywhere I go.

All I need is that one opportunity.
