My college goal, besides playing baseball, is to complete a business degree then go onto graduate school where I will combine an MBA with a law degree. Every ballplayer’s dream is to be drafted, as is mine, but I also know the statistics so if I don’t make it to that level, I plan on becoming involved with the business side of baseball. With more and more athletes coming from Asia, using my background in which I speak Mandarin fluently, I can help both the athlete and the professional team with negotiations and adjusting to living in the US.
Having played baseball during the summers in Beijing with a Chinese team, I’ve learned to live in different cultures (my mother is from Beijing and my family lived there for 5 years) and to understand the differences between playing baseball in the US versus in China.
Academically, I am in the collegiate academy which means half my classes are college courses. When I finish high school, I’ll also receive my Associate’s Degree which means I enter college as a junior. Graduating from the program not only will make my parents proud but also give me a head start on my future goals. Playing college baseball on an academic scholarship is something I am aiming for as it helps the athletic program use the money for someone else but also gives me pride in knowing that hard work in high school paid off.
I’m a solid baseball player who listens to advice from coaches knowing they are trying to make me a better player. Between my athletic ability, cultural understanding, and academic advancedment, I’d be an asset to any coaches baseball program.
