Playing kickball, baseball, soccer, and many other sports with kids who have disabilities is where you can find me when I’m not studying, working on the farm, weightlifting, playing baseball, hunting or fishing. Helping others who don’t have the same opportunities I have is one of the biggest blessings in my life. Being around them has given me a bigger vision for myself. A vision for me to be that role model to a younger generation, to inspire them to chase their goals no matter the hurdles they have to overcome.
Growing up participating in gymnastics instilled in me discipline and repetition at a young age. These lessons transferred over into wrestling in later years and playing baseball throughout my life. It has helped me practice my time management through taking college classes, making my own workout program, and working throughout the week. I’ve been given the unique opportunity to be a volunteer coach for a local organization that has gained State and National recognition. Challenger League gives kids with disabilities, who otherwise wouldn’t, the opportunity to play organized sports. These kids don’t have the opportunities that I have. However, watching them struggle in their daily lives and even just playing kickball for a few weeks out of the year has encouraged me to push myself and be more disciplined. As much as I’d like to think I am helping them, the truth is they have helped me become the teammate, coach, and young man I am today.
