I played last summer with the 17u East Cobb Patriots managed by Jim Lovejoy and enjoyed the opportunity to pitch against good competition. As a pitcher, I want to develop my 4 pitches to be able to throw in any count and to be able to start an at-bat with a breaking ball. My curveball has nice depth against right-handed hitters and speeds up my fastball. I use my changeup mainly to lefties because of the running action it has. And, my slider works well low and in to lefties and in to righties. I enjoyed a nice season pitching a low ERA and overall how to pitch, not merely throw.
As a hitter, I like ambushing a first-pitch fastball whenever I can. Pitchers tend to come back in later at-bats with uncomfortable off-speed pitches which will get me ahead in the count. Also, far too often pitchers tip off their pitches which helps to ambush a pitch.
Catching-wise, I had a lot of fun working with older pitchers and calling games to their strengths. Having a plan and varying counts and situations helped me call a strong game. Also, the relationship with the pitcher before the game and planning made the game go smoother.
I am looking for a college that values academics as well as a baseball program. I want to meet great people to make me a better person, and I want to make the people around me better.
