Personal Statement
I’ve played baseball since the age of 4 and have a natural talent for the game, but through practice, listening, learning and implementing, my skills and baseball IQ have grown. I now want to continue that growth as a student athlete at the collegiate level. I am in the class of 2019 with 3.2 GPA, SAT 1090, 6’1 tall and 175 lbs. The positions I played for the 2018 travel balI season were Left field, RHP, DH and 3rd base. One of my most outstanding baseball qualities is that I am fast. My fastest time was 6.41 and avg 6.655( 60 yard dash), 3.7 (home to 1st). I played this season on both the 17/18U teams. On both teams I played several positions as I have the skills to be able to be effective in whatever role needed to help the team. Although did well on both, my stats over all best when played against 18U teams, for ex, had 24 ABs and BA .458 w/OPS 1.067. Pitching this season for the 17U I did not give up any hits or runs, for 18U had 11:5 Kk:BB ratio. I expect that my velocity will increase as I develop, but I want to be a pitcher that understands how to pitch and able to "hit my spots" accurately. But what I am most proud of is that I have always been the type of player that will lift up his teammates no matter what the score is or what inning.
Although I enjoy baseball, academics are primary for me. I would like to attend a school that provides a great academic program more than anything. I am confident in my ability as a player, but realize that my skills may need improving. I am looking for a collegiate opportunity that will help me do that and reach my goals not only in baseball but academically. I would prefer to stay in the southeast. I of course would like to have the opportunity to play at the highest level of competition as soon as possible, no later than my sophomore yr. Baseball has taught me a lot of things about life and an example of a primary one is time management. An example of this is I try to do all of my homework for Mondays on Fridays. This means that I am able to do quality homework so my grades will remain good and have the weekends to have time for practice/games and fun. I’m looking forward to getting better and taking the next step on this journey.
