Personal Statement

My name is Zach Johnson. I am a student at The High School of St. Thomas More, a college prep school in Champaign, Illinois and will graduate in 2010. I am an excellent student and currently carry a 3.7 GPA. I started playing baseball when I could walk, my Dad would throw to me and I would hit it. He taught me how to throw and hit at a very young age. My love for baseball continued to grow from that point forward. I have played organized baseball since I was 6. I started to play travel ball at 12. My sophomore and junior years on the Varsity Baseball Team, primarily as a pitcher, I played a big key to our team's success. During the summers I play on a hardcore traveling team in which we play the best competition possible. I've also been a starter on the varsity basketball team since the beginning of my sophomore year. I am also a Third Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo. Now I am looking to find the best school for me to play baseball at the highest level. I know my determination to be the best that I can be and my strong work ethic will enable me to reach my full potential both as a student and an athlete. Ideally I want to pursue a University with an outstanding academic reputation and an athletic environment where I can make a difference. Update: I was invited to and attended the Perfect Game Midwest Top Prospect Showcase in Cedar Rapids, IA August 22-23 where I received a Perfect Game rating of 8.
