Personal Statement
I was introduced to sports at a young age. I tried almost every sport out there and was encouraged by my parents to do so. Baseball and football both stuck as my favorite sports at a young age. I started baseball in preschool and in t-ball. I started football in first grade. I loved both sports and since they both are on different seasons I was able to pursue in both every year since then.
I was always really good at baseball and football for as long as I can remember. I knew I had a future in these sports if I worked hard and dedicate my time to both sports.
They use to call me the "Brian Urlacher of baseball" because I was everywhere on the field. I also made hitting look very easy at a young age. I loved batting and making great plays.
For football, my older brother got me interested when I was in 1st grade and ever since I have played. I got moved up to the higher leagues so I can play with my brother and my dad was the coach. So, I always played with people who were 1 to 2 years older than me. It taught me to work hard to get what I want.
My skills as a baseball player have continued to grow. I had the highest on base percentage on my team in high school last year and had one of the highest batting percentages on my travel team last year. I also love how my coaches, team and parents know that when a ball is hit anywhere near me, I have an uncanny way of being there to catch it. My favorite plays to make is throwing people out when they are going for a steal from the outfield.
Football is also a thrill that I can see where the ball is going to go and make a play. As a safety last year, I had the most interceptions and highest tackle rate on the defensive side for my team. I love to hear the quarterback on the opposite team warn his team about me. That is pride I can take with me to know I am doing my job.
My leadership skills continue to progress in both sports. I have been team football captain for 2 years running at Plainfield South High School. I also was able to help my dad coach my younger brother and his team with my dad around my football schedule. In baseball, I love to encourage my team members and lift them up when things are running rough and to try to make the game fun as well. I enjoy working with my team mates.
I continue to work on my academics. I work hard to keep my work caught up and turned in and have increased my efficiency of studying. When I was in grade school, I was diagnosed with ADHD. My mom was right there with me and helped me through the medication trials and also with weaning off of them when I was ready. She helped me with learning organization and study skills. She and my dad also have always been there to support me with any trials of school or sports arise.
I'm not real sure where my career and education will lead me. I do know I would love to continue to have sports and a sports career in my life. I continue to search for a good match and listen to advise from others in careers I find interesting.
I enjoy watching and participating in almost any sport that I can, whether it be for competition or for fun. I feel sports is a great way to keep in shape and clear your mind. I also enjoy fishing with friends or family. I enjoy camping and the outdoors. I, occasionally, help my sister with her dog watching and walking business when she is busy and like to help in the animal shelters. However, my favorite times have been helping my dad coach young kids in football.
