Personal Statement
I am a left handed pitcher. I have been a left handed pitcher playing some type of organized baseball since I was in kindergarten. I am a left handed pitcher because of my DNA, and initially, started pitching because for a lefty, the available positions in the field are limited. When I was younger, I felt that I I could play shortstop or catcher as well as anyone else, and thought of my southpaw limitations as a type of handicap. Now as a high school Junior, I have grown to love pitching. This is no longer a limitation for me, but a great opportunity to continue playing the game I love beyond my high school career.
I am not just a baseball player. I have always dedicated myself to excelling in school, as grades have always been valued by my family and me.
I pride myself in my coach-ability, work ethic, constant desire for improvement, and ability to stay calm under pressure. Being a great teammate is one of my biggest attributes. A quote I have always tried to emulate was said by retired Olympic soccer player, Mia Hamm. “I am a member of a team, and I rely on the team. I defer to it, and sacrifice for it, because the team, not the individual is the ultimate champion.” Along with being a team player, sportsmanship and respect for the opposing players, coaches and umpires is a core value of mine.
Thank you for reading my profile, I appreciate you taking the time out of your day to read my personal statement, and good luck in the upcoming baseball season.
