Jason Dettman '21 Recruiting Profile

While I am successful in maintaining and achieving my academic goals, my primary focus is to play baseball beyond the high school level in college and eventually the MLB.  I am a two-way player, and intend to compete as a position player and LHP in college.  "If you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life", that is my goal, to do what I love.  Baseball is my passion in life.   I intend to work in Major League baseball as a player, or as a scout, a coach, or even in a front-office position in the long term.  College will help to prepare me both on the field and in the classroom to pursue my baseball dream.

I love baseball and its history.  I study the game daily and understand how the sport has progressed over the years.  My favorite players inspire me and exist in the past and present, namely Bob Gibson, Roberto Clemente, Greg Maddux, Vladimir Guerrero, and Mike Trout.  I am a student of the strategy of the game and strive to improve my baseball IQ daily.  When the situation calls for it, I lay down bunts and hit sac flies for the team.  Anything to achieve victory.  I'm a gamer.  I'm a strikeout and groundball pitcher (not a thrower) and I command four pitches. I am driven and will surprise my future coaches and succeed wherever I go.  I am a persistent competitor on the field, and while development for the next level is always important to me, I hate to lose.

I will lead my teams on the field by my example and work ethic.  I respect the game and all that it stands for and will treat the game with the respect it deserves.  This is who I am today and who I will be in the future.
