Personal Statement
My name is Will Armstrong. I’m 5’11”, 150 lbs. I’ve been in Des Moines my whole life and am a junior at Theodore Roosevelt High School. I am primarily a shortstop, but also can play second or third because I have quick, smooth hands and a good arm. I can cover lots of ground on the infield and have a high baseball IQ. I am also a pitcher and can throw five pitches for strikes. These baseball skills have translated well into high school as I started every game at shortstop and played every inning at the varsity level as a sophomore and was named to the first team all-conference in the Central Iowa Metropolitan League (Metro).
I have been playing baseball for as long as I can remember and love to the play the game the right way. I believe I have picked up on certain ways of how to do this which involves being a good teammate and a team leader, whether it is vocally or leading by example. I enjoy learning under new coaches and their different viewpoints on how I can improve my game and perform at the highest level possible.
I pride myself on being well rounded in academics and in sports. I have a 3.8 GPA and am scheduled to take the ACT in October. I have played basketball and baseball in high school and am currently taking four college level courses and am interested in business for a possible major. I have always put in the work in order to have the best grades and I believe that has also translated to my athletics as well.
I believe one of the most exciting things about me is my room to grow. I am currently in the weight room 3-4 times a week before school as well as agility training once or twice a week. I expect my arm and bat velocity to increase with the work that I put in and am excited for what that may mean for my future.
