Personal Statement

As a Freshman, you do what it takes to get on the field in varsity baseball.  I have always played shortstop, but my coach needed a second baseman and I put the team's needs above my own.  That is my philosophy.  Do what it takes. I could have been our JV shortstop, but because of my flexibility and work ethic I tried to be the best second baseman I could be.  It paid off and coaches in my league selected me to the first team squad.  My sophomore year, I earned the starting shortstop position. I was selected 2nd team All-League at shortstop. On offense, I continued to bat in the lead off position. For the second year in a row, I led my team in batting average, hits, stolen bases and runs scored.  Because of my performance and efforts for my team, my teammates selected me as offensive player for the second time.
Through the years I have learned how to respect my coaches, how to be coachable and most of all how to grow and make myself a better person through playing the game I love.  I am working hard to make my goal of playing college baseball a reality.  I hope to find a college that fits both my athletic and academic needs.  I will use the game to improve my leadership skills to a higher level so I can use throughout the rest of my life and baseball career.  High level play and leadership is what I strive for.  "Gamer".  That is the word my coaches use to describe me because I bring everything I can to the classroom, practices, and games.  I would love to bring that "Gamer" attitude to your program.
