Personal Statement

Dear Recruiters/Coaches,

My name is Timothy Ruffino II, and I currently attend Archbishop Hannan High-school located in Covington, Louisiana.

As a baseball player, I hold myself to many goals and aspirations in my path to becoming a collegiate athlete, such as being a leader in the dugout, the locker room, the classroom, on the field, and even on campus. Being a high school athlete takes on a lot of responsibilities like picking your teammates up even if you are having a bad day on the mound, at the plate, in the classroom, or in general, which are the first steps in becoming a leader of a team. Many adults and kids look up to me due to my backstory on how I have had to overcome many odds due to me having one hand. I hold myself to being a leader on and off the field, so other kids and even some adults can look up to me as a leader and someone who they can look up to on their path to accomplish their goals. I want to be the best player and person I can possibly be, and most importantly, want to be the best leader God wants me to become to people. Leadership is very important to me, because I want to challenge and pick up my teammates on and off the field to help my teammates and myself become better men and better athletes, and want to hold them to high standards and challenge them to become better in their life. My number one goal/ aspiration in becoming a collegiate athlete is being a leader in the clubhouse and in being an example to my teammates on and off the field. This is also the most important goal to me, and the goal I want to accomplish the most as a baseball player.

Ten other goals and aspirations that I would like to accomplish as a collegiate athlete:

1. To become the best college athlete I can be.

2. Be a leader to my teammates on and of the field.

3. Be a baseball player who is respected by his teammates and coaches.

4. Inspire people that anything is possible and any obstacle is not to big for God.

5. Help lead my team to a championship.

6. Break 1 or more previously held NCAA or university record.

7. Become the most respected player in college baseball.

8. Have the highest GPA on the baseball team.

9. Graduate with a degree in engineering, or other major.

10. Be valedictorian of my class.

I have many other goals I would like to achieve as a college athlete, but these are some of the biggest I would like to achieve as a Student-Athlete.

I have many traits that makes me a good candidate for your team, including my character, spiritual life, leadership skills, academic skills, and my athletic skill. One of my greatest traits is my character, because as a player and teammate I can be trusted, and respected, without any doubt on and off the field. I am a true teammate and player, and have full respect of my teammates, coaches, fellow students, and professors in any aspect of life. My character is what helps me have such amazing leadership skills on and off the baseball field. My spiritual life is also very important to me, as well, because I am a strong believer in Jesus Christ as my Lord, and would help any of my teammates, through Him, if they allowed me to, because I hold the upmost respect towards my teammates and coaches beliefs. My academic level is also another reason why I am a good candidate for your baseball team, because my most important goal in high school is to get a full ride to college to help my family out, and accomplish a goal I've had since I've known the different aspects of college. I take my academics serious and try my hardest in the classroom to make great grades and keep a high level on my ACT, GPA, and SAT. My most important aspect of being a college athlete is making sure the coach doesn't have to worry about me off the field and can trust me to keep my grades at a high level, because I take being a Student-Athlete very seriously. These are many reasons why I am a good candidate for your team, because I am a true teammate and player and can be trusted by my coaches to keep my academic excellence.

What makes me different from other athletes, is that I can be a leader on and off the field, be a great teammate, play baseball at a high level, and be trusted and looked up to in the classroom and on the baseball field. I am a very good student in the classroom, and enjoy studying for big test, or just in general, to better my understanding of mathematics, English, social studies, etc. What separates me from other recruits is that you, as a coach, do not have to worry about me going out and partying, or doing things that could put the teams season in jeopardy. I do not party, but would rather go hit with my buddies, go take some ground balls, or study and do homework for my classes. As a collegiate athlete, I believe that you should keep your grades up to the highest you possibly can while bettering yourself at your sport (baseball). Also one important trait that I have is that I treat my teammates with the upmost respect, and am a true teammate that can be trusted throughout our time in college and throughout life in general. I treat my teammates as my brothers and would have their back at all times. I am also a very spiritual person, and would lift anyone up if they needed help. God is my number one priority in life, and I would show anyone to Jesus Christ if they needed help throughout their career or in life. I am a true teammate who would have my teammates back and would treat them as my brothers. These are some of the major ways that I separate myself from other recruits, and why my character, athletic skills, and academic skills are different from many other recruits.

I do not like to brag about myself in any means and am a very humble person, which I have been through my career. My athletic skills, academic skills, and character goes a long way and makes me a good person, candidate, and player for your team. I hope that I can become a leader in your clubhouse and continue my academic and athletic skills at your respective university. I thank you and your staff for taking the time to read this letter and hope your collegiate season goes well.

Timothy M. Ruffino II

  • Timmy Ruffino, LHP, 2019 A 5-foot-11, 190-pound 8th grader from Mandeville, LA. Big, mature frame with advanced strength. Clean delivery with loose, fast arm out of a high-3/4 release. Fastball sat 79-81 mph with some arm side run and feel for command. Breaking ball spun well with 1/7 shape and quality depth. An extremely young prospect that is well ahead of the curve for his age and created a nice buzz at the workout.
