Personal Statement

I have dreamed to play at the collegiate level for as long as I remember. I hope to major in business management and marketing. Once I graduate, I desire to connect my major with a job related to baseball. Through baseball I have learned to work well with others, to put things that maybe aren't going my way behind me, and to move forward to perform to the best of my ability. Additionally, baseball has taught me to give people a chance that maybe no one else would have and to do the right thing even though it may cost me something in return.

When I was a freshman I was throwing a 6 inning no-hitter in the last game of my baseball season and we were up 3-0. A kid who I hadn’t seen in the batter’s box all game came up to the plate and I noticed that he had some special needs (later finding out that he had Down’s Syndrome). Overhearing from the dugout that he hadn't gotten a hit all season, I decided to throw a slow meat pitch right down the middle that he drove into shallow left field. It was not only the first hit of the game but the first hit of his season. At that moment, I thought it was more important for him to have that positive experience than for me to throw a perfect game. I share this story with you because I strongly feel that the lessons of baseball and life go hand in hand. I desire to be a part of a team that values community, sportsmanship and a strong bond with each other that I can contribute to.

Thank you for your consideration.

  • 6-foot-2, 210-pound right-handed hitting first baseman and right-handed pitcher. I thought he showed tremendous potential at the event. The bat has plus life to it, the path is simple and short to the ball. Tee exit velocity of 84 mph, more to come on that end. The set up is ideal for me, feet are spread out and he uses very minimal action on the bottom half. The hands are quick and inside the ball at contact. Strength is needed as he is a big body and the weight room could be the difference. Defensively, solid around the bag, the feet work appropriately. Threw 71 mph across the diamond with minimal effort. Ran a 4.78 down the line on his dig. On the mound, the fastball touched 76 mph and the breaking pitch, which is big, touched 67 mph. Pitches out of an above ¾ arm slot. The lift is athletic, small bounce at the top and a hard pull of the glove side as he makes his way into foot strike. The tracking of the front shoulder needs to improve as he develops on the mound, he comes off the target too soon. I like the bat a bunch. Ranked "Most Raw Power" for the event.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE.
