Personal Statement
Bottom line. As soon as I step on the field, I want to strive to become the best teammate. My teammates are who I will spend 1-4 years of my life with. The bonds I establish may be the difference between losing games in the late innings or winning the championship game.
Since early childhood, I have dreamt of playing professional baseball. Ever since, I have been working extremely hard to make that happen. With that being said, I will take college extremely seriously, just like I have been with my years in high school. Every level of play is a stepping stone towards my goal. I take my grades just as seriously, if not more serious than baseball because if I can’t get on the field, that is only hurting me. I try to embody the true meaning of a “Student-Athlete”.
I believe that my intangible attributes are just as, if not more, admirable than my tangible attributes. I take pride in my leadership, coachability, and projectability. I earned the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of 14, so I feel that gives a sense of how I exhibited leadership from years on years. I love to be coached and learn new things about any and everything. And this just makes me a better person as well as an athlete. And my projectability is also one of my favorites because since I am always a student of the game, I am nowhere close to my peak performance. I love to pay attention to the minute detail, which is often overlooked by many other players. Pennies do add up!! This is what makes me stand out.
I have always taken pride in my academics. I have a 3.86 GPA in high school and I am also taking college courses as well so those courses will also give me a GPA bump as well. I am an outstanding student in the classroom.
As many coaches point out, there is so much more to a prospect than the 5 tools. Yes, I feel I have elite speed. Yes, I can defend my position very well, but I feel my work in the classroom and in my community set me up well to be a competitor on any college's baseball team.
