Personal Statement
My name is Joshua Shepherd from Bowie High School in Bowie, Maryland. First and foremost, I will like to thank God for my parents and the talent to play sports.
My parents are the two most influential people in my life. They have taught me values to live by, they have supported me and they have encouraged me to pursue my dreams while challenging myself to be the best that I can be. I would not be the person I am today without their love and guidance.
Sports have been an integral part of my life. Growing up, I’ve played football, basketball, and baseball. Baseball is my passion. During my freshmen year, I was one of only two players selected to play on the Junior Varsity (JV) and Varsity baseball team. I played mostly on the JV team as a pitcher, shortstop, and third baseman and was awarded the Offensive player of the year. Also, I was one of only two players asked to participate in the Varsity team semifinals game.
I played Fall baseball with the Bowie High School team and the team participated in several tournaments. I will train with a personal trainer during off-season. My plans for the year of 2018 are to play on the Bowie High School varsity baseball team, play on a summer travel team (Yankee Rebels), and attend clinics and showcases.
Through playing sports, I have learned to display teamwork, loyalty, dedication, perseverance, and diligence. Also, I have learned to be a dynamic player and positive influence on the team.
Throughout my high school career, I will strive to be the best student in my class of 2020 and maintain a great GPA and score high on the SAT/ACT. I’m looking for a college with a strong academic program as well as a competitive athletic program. My goal is to play Division I/II college baseball while pursing a Sport Management degree. I constantly challenge myself to do my very best both on the field and in the classroom.
I’m a student-athlete who conducts myself with honor and respect on and off the field, knowing the way I carry myself reflects my team, my coaches, and the school I attend.
