Personal Statement
My name is Riley Smith and I am currently a upcoming senior at Urbana High School. I am a multi-sport athlete and have had success at various levels of competition. I have played football for 6 years and am currently a starting Wide Receiver for the Varsity team. While I enjoy other sports such as football and basketball, my main focus is baseball. I have played baseball on competitive travel teams since I was 7 years old and have always been a starter. I have played on teams which compete at different levels and have had the opportunity to learn from many different coaches.
I am currently on the 16U Mid-Atlantic Dirtbags Anchor Down baseball team which is Nationally ranked # 22 by Perfect Game and Regionally ranked #1 in the Mid-Atlantic. While on this travel team I have had the opportunity to showcase my skills in many different National events throughout the country. My primary position is Outfield, but I also have the ability to play in other positions as needed such as Shortstop and Pitcher. I feel my athleticism and ability to play in any position has made me a valued team mate and I have earned the respect of the various coaches throughout the years due to this diversity.
I am currently on the Urbana High School Varsity Baseball Team and had a very successful Junior year Spring of 2022. The team earned both the Conference (for the 3rd time) and Regional (2 years in a row) Champion awards. I led the County in batting average with a .476, OBP of .637, OPS 1.463, SLG .825, 30 stolen bases, 43 runs and 11 RBI's. I broke 3 offensive school records with 30, Runs with 43 and Triples with 7. In addition, I led the county or placed 2nd in the following categories: BA, H, SLG, Triples, Runs, OBP and SB.
I was selected 1st Team Central Maryland Conference, All County 1st Team, and 2nd Team All PBR. I was selected to play in the Maryland State Association of Baseball Coaches (MSABC) Classic All star game as well as the XPosure Sports All Star Game.
Lastly, I have been selected for the MSABC Pre-season All State Team and look forward to a great senior year.
I have a strong academic background and am currently a member of the National Honor Society. I am hoping to continue my baseball career at a college that has both a strong academic and athletic program.
I have learned many life skills through the various sports I have participated in. I have made lifelong friendships, learned how to be a leader and respect the sport. I also know that respect to the team, to the coaches and to myself will continue to help me mature and develop to be a valued member of any team or organization I am fortunate to be a part of.
