Personal Statement
Winning a 4A state championship in Maryland my Sophomore year has been the highlight of my High School experience so far. The obstacles I had to take to reach that point and have the season I had as just a sophomore was incredible. Day one, I make the team as one of two underclassmen with a stacked senior class of over 13 guys. I did my time on the bench and learned from the older guys around me about what it was like to be on varsity and compete with higher competition. In my first outing, I couldn't have done worst. I didn't even finish the inning and I had already gave up 6 earned runs. I got hate from the parents in the crowd, my own teammates at times, and even my friends around school. I took that time to mentally prepare myself for the next chance I got to make sure that didn't happen again. 3 weeks later, that opportunity came and I was having success. I became the closer from then on out and throughout the playoffs and was able to put my team in a spot to win consistently. After the state title, I thought to myself that's why I love the game so much. It's because I had seen the full circle in such a short time. I had finally realized that the connections I had made with my teammates and coaches were the greatest thing to come out of winning the state title. For the 2020 season, I was named one of the team captains because of the relationship I had built with my coach and the hard work I showed during the 2019 season. I believe I have the talent to play at the next level, and I want to be able to work with my coaches as much as I work with my High School coaches now to be able to achieve one common goal.
