Personal Statement
I moved with my family from southern California to our current home in western Massachusetts after my freshman year of high school. I grew up playing baseball, basketball and football in the highly ethnically and racially diverse city of Long Beach, which also happens to be a baseball mecca. I made the freshman baseball team at the renowned St. John Bosco in Bellflower after having played for six years on All-Star teams in the area. In that baseball environment I discovered one of my strengths: the ability to make friends quickly with teammates from all kinds of backgrounds.
I know how important it is for a team to have good chemistry, and over the years I have contributed to that on teams including my current high school team, and going back to my years playing in the Cal Ripken and other youth/junior baseball leagues. I have been a team leader and loyal teammate, and I value my relationships on and off the field with my teammates and coaches.
I also want to say that while I take baseball very seriously, I believe I have a really good sense of humor. I think I’m a good writer. I do pretty well in school. I’m also a musician who plays multiple instruments, especially guitar, piano and saxophone.
I want to go to a college or university that not only has a good baseball program, but has the kind of academic programs and opportunities that will put me in a position to further my life goals beyond baseball.
